Music festivals are popular all around the world. Whatever the country, music comes in many different forms and is present in every capital, region and city of each country. The list is never exhaustive as new festivals are added every year if not month. However, some festivals are a lot more popular and attended than others.

They come in different sizes and the biggest ones aren’t necessarily the best. It also depends on the guests and whether the area is very populated.
The New Orleans Music Festival for instance is reputed throughout the world. Jazz enthusiasts flock from every corner of the world to watch the hottest jazz bands play. But, The New Orleans Music Festival also welcomes many other artists such as Bruce Springsteen, The Dixie Chicks or the Beach Boys. In New Orleans, music is a way of life and this can be felt during the festival which takes place from April 27th to May 6th.
Another famous music festival is The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. This festival is held in California and only dates back to 1999. The Coachella Festival welcomes most high-profile artists that include Madonna, Eminem, David Guetta, The Prodigy, The Strokes, The Black Eyed Peas and many more. The 2012 edition took place from April 13th until 22nd April.
The All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival in Somerset, UK is another great event that takes place every year. The Festival takes place in Camber Sands, East Sussex, England starting May 25th until 27th. The UK edition welcomed guests such as The Soft Moon, Slayer, Sleep, The Make-up and the Afghan Whigs amongst others. This isn’t a mainstream music festival. Above all, the All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival celebrates avant-garde and underground music.
The Roskilde Festival in Denmark is one the oldest and dates back to 1971. This festival was originally created by 2 students and has been growing ever since. It now welcomes music legends such as Nick Cave and The Pet Shop Boys. The Roskilde Festival takes place from between 5th and 8th July. There are usually a few other pre-festivals before the main ones and some start as early as June.
The Australian Music Festival, Splendour in the Grass has become a real phenomenon. Taking place on 27, 28, 29th July in Belongil Fields, Byron Bay, Australia, 17, 000 tickets were sell out within minutes. It has been announced that this year, Splendour in the Grass will offer limited VIP PASSES. This is a departure from the other years but also confirms the growing success of this music festival. The main line up includes Block Party, Jack White, The Kooks and Smashing Pumpkins.
Finally, The Independence Rock Festival in Mumbai is a two-day rock and heavy metal festival taking place on Independence Day, which falls in mid-August. The Festival takes place on the Chitrakoots Grounds. It is one easily recognised as being one the best festivals for hard-rock enthusiasts and is gaining popularity every year.
